OBJECTIVES

Objectives 

The general objectives of the Meeting of International Cooperation Directors for Latin America and the Caribbean are as follows:

    1. Promote a space for rapprochement between authorities and national focal points responsible for international cooperation to exchange ideas, experiences and best practices on priority issues on the agenda for cooperation, development aid, South-South Cooperation and Triangular Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean;

    2. Identify areas and define actions and initiatives for better coordination and synergy among the various cooperation stakeholders at regional, subregional and international levels;

    3. Promote the identification of bilateral and multilateral cooperation sources for Latin American and Caribbean countries, as well as South-South and Triangular cooperation opportunities that can be exploited within the region.

    4. Identify policy proposals and recommendations for strengthening regional cooperation.


Specific objectives

This meeting is intended to: i) Gain knowledge about the available information on the current trend of family remittances; ii) Analyze the regional migratory dynamics based on monetary flows with emphasis on intra-regional migration, and provide a characterization of the Latin American and Caribbean immigrant; iii) Evaluate the effect of remittances on national and household income, as well as on savings and asset building; iv) Present the major regional and/or subregional cooperation initiatives in the field of remittances and development, as well as the best practices for the use of remittances and their potential to generate savings and investment; v) Coordinate the areas and initiatives suitable for cooperation to strengthen the issue of migrants’ remittances; and vi) Suggest initiatives and areas for action that can be undertaken by both the public and the private sectors to promote and encourage the link between remittances and development.
