III REGIONAL SEMINAR “PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS FOR DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT. CONTINUITY OF GOVERNMENT AND CONTINUITY OF OPERATIONS DURING DISASTERS: ACHIEVEMENTS AND EXPERIENCES FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AND ENTERPRISES”

OBJECTIVES

General objectives:

  1. Tighten relations of coordination and cooperation among Latin American and Caribbean governments and institutions specialized in disaster risk reduction, as well as the private sector.

  2. Deepen the process to develop partnerships in the private sector of the Americas for disaster risk reduction, by working in coordination with the Regional Office for the Americas of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the private sector in Latin America and the Caribbean.

  3. Strengthen actions to institutionalize the policies for disaster risk reduction (DRR), their development and implementation, through partnerships between the public and private sectors.

  4. Identify successful cases of public-private cooperation mechanisms for disaster risk reduction in Latin America and the Caribbean.

  5. Further analyze the issues of continuity of government and continuity of business and operations during disasters, from a comprehensive and forward-looking regional perspective.


Specific objectives:

  1. Analyze national achievements and experiences of public-private partnerships for disaster risk reduction in Latin America and the Caribbean, in the context of continuity of government and continuity of business and operations from the perspective of local governments and enterprises (state governments, mayor’s offices and municipalities).

  2. Evaluate concrete experiences from the perspective of local governments and enterprises, according to the provision of essential public services.

  3. Evaluate available instruments, methodologies and indicators to verify and monitor the performance of local risk management.

  4. Analyze regional initiatives underway aimed at strengthening public-private partnerships for disaster risk reduction, as well as potential cooperation areas.

  5. Prepare a general roadmap to ensure the compliance with goals and objectives of continuity of government and continuity of business and operations at the level of local governments and enterprises.
