San Salvador, El Salvador. October  13 to 14, 2016 . Hotel Barceló, Av. Magnolias y Blvd. del hipódromo, Boulevard Sergio Viera De Mello, San Salvador.

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION

The Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and of Caribbean Economic System (SELA), in collaboration with the Central Reserve Bank and the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of El Salvador, organized the “VIII Latin American and Caribbean Regional Meeting on Foreign Trade Single Windows: trade facilitation and support of information systems,” which took place in San Salvador, Republic of El Salvador, on 13 and 14 October 2016.

At the VII Meeting, held in Montevideo, Uruguay, on 15 and 16 October 2015, the attending delegations recommended that SELA, in inter-agency synergy with other relevant bodies, continue the effort launched in 2010 with the First Latin American and Caribbean Regional Meeting on Foreign Trade Single Windows, organized at that time in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism of Colombia.

Since then, the Permanent Secretariat of SELA has systematically promoted these annual regional meetings in order to disseminate best practices and encourage governments in the region to address the design of public policies and national instruments that boost national and regional efforts aimed at the consolidation of Foreign Trade Single Windows (FTSW) in Latin America and the Caribbean, as part of trade facilitation and e-government strategies.

This VIII Latin American and Caribbean Regional Meeting on Foreign Trade Single Windows focused on the support that information systems provide for the implementation of trade facilitation measures, with special emphasis on Foreign Trade Single Windows (FTSW), as well as the legal, technological, governance and coordination difficulties faced by these processes and the provisions aimed at speeding up and facilitating trade

As is customary, the VIII Meeting will be an opportunity to present the main advances reported by multilateral organizations in this matter and share information about the implementation, strengthening, expansion of services and new projects related to FTSW in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
