INFORMATION ON MIGRATION
If you want to know if you need a visa to enter Uruguay, the Web site of the National Directorate of Migration includes an updated list with the above information. To access it, click here or visit https://migracion.minterior.gub.uy, entering the Visas section.
Some people, according to their nationality, must request a visa to enter Uruguay. This is a prerequisite for entering the country, and the visa is required regardless of the length of stay in Uruguay.
Visa authorization is granted by the National Directorate of Migration at least 20 business days from the date of request. Once the Consulate receives said written authorization, it is able to issue the visa, stamping it on the passport of the holder.
Consulates of the Republic abroad are responsible for receiving visa applications and informing about the requirements to apply for it.
If applicants are scheduled to visit Uruguay for conventions or business meetings, it is necessary to attach note of invitation of the company related to the request.
It should be noted that all persons applying for a visa must submit a contact person in Uruguay. If there is no contact person, they must submit a confirmed hotel reservation. In both cases, they should provide full details of said contact person or hotel, phone and address. They must confirm that the data provided are correct, since the National Directorate of Migration will contact said person or hotel directly. If is not able to do so, the visa will probably be denied.
