SELA AND ECLAC SIGN TECHNICAL AND INSTITUTIONAL COOPERATION AGREEMENT
The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will join efforts to contribute to the institutional strengthening of the region in infrastructure, transport and logistics services, including port services, through technical cooperation actions.
The Permanent Secretary of SELA, Ambassador Javier Paulinich, and the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena, signed the framework agreement on Thursday 26 October 2017 at the headquarters of the Secretariat of the Common Market of the South (MERCOSUR) in Montevideo, Uruguay, within the framework of the Second Meeting of the Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The parties will be able to carry out the following technical and institutional cooperation activities: a) Collaboration with studies and projects between SELA’s officials, consultants and collaborators and ECLAC’s officials, consultants and specialists; b) Organization of meetings, seminars, workshops and advisory services, aimed at deepening and making progress in areas related to port policies, infrastructure development, logistics, transportation and other topics of mutual interest. In addition, they are expected to develop cooperation activities, work programmes, exchange of professional services and printed, electronic materials of relevance for both parties.
The Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) is an intergovernmental regional organization that aims to harmonize common economic and cooperation strategies among its 26 Member States, while the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is a United Nations commission responsible for promoting the economic and social development of the region.
