ECLAC PROVIDES OVERVIEW OF THE ECONOMIES OF LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN AND THE OUTLOOK FOR 2011

Santiago, December 13- Throughout 2010, the recovery of Latin American and Caribbean economies that had in most cases begun in the second half of the year was further strengthened. Although performance has been uneven, the upturn is expected to be stronger than initially estimated. The scale of the recovery and the challenges for 2011 are analysed in the ECLAC document Preliminary Overview of the Economies of Latin America and the Caribbean 2010, which will be presented on Monday 13 December.

The annual study is one of the main publications of ECLAC, and analyses the most striking features in recent trends of the region's economies, as well as the scenarios for 2011. This includes the following:

- Growth projections for Latin America and the Caribbean for 2010 and 2011, at the regional level and for individual countries.

- A diagnosis of the main features of the macroeconomic performance of the region's countries.

- An analysis of the main challenges facing the region's economies amidst a backdrop of lower projected growth for the world economy, and emerging economies proving more attractive to international financial markets.
