PANAMA AND URUGUAY ANALYZE AGENDA OVER JUSTICE AND ECONOMY

Panama City, September 4- Panama and Uruguay officials are meeting in Montevideo this week to discuss a bilateral agenda that could lead to cooperation in economic, commercial and legal matters, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced yesterday.

The Panama delegation is being led by Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Francisco Álvarez Soto.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement that during the meeting Panama will raise the possibility of concluding agreements on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters; the transfer of sentenced persons and conventions between the Panama Maritime University and the University of Labor of Uruguay.

Trade will also play an important part of the discussion, and is expected to focus on the Colón Free Zone.

The two countries will also discuss the process for the ratification of the Convention on Cultural and Educational Cooperation, signed in 2011.

According to the ministry, it will also seek to promote an agreement on cooperation and exchange of information to train diplomatic personnel, in addition to considering the issue of fellowships, internships and training of diplomatic personnel.
