CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES DISCUSS ECONOMIC STRATEGIES

Port of Spain, September 6 (PL)- The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) held a meeting in this capital to bring order to their economies, the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) reported yesterday.

The meeting is about implementing strategies to cope with low economic growth, the heavy external debt and the damages due to the global financial turmoil.

This closed-door meeting at the Hyatt Regency Central Bank is attended by the Governor of the Eastern Caribbean, Dwight Venner, representatives of countries in the sub-region and International Monetary Fund officials.

Speaking to CMC, Venner said that they discuss ways to address the problems caused by low growth and high debt in the Caribbean and insisted they depend on the external environment.

The OECS countries are Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
