Mexico City, May 23- The Foreign Ministry reports that President Xi Jinping of China will make a State Visit to Mexico from June 4-6.

This State visit, the first of President Peña Nieto’s administration, will take place two months after the two leaders met for the first time on April 6th in Sanya in the Hainan Province (China), almost at the start of both the Chinese and Mexican administrations (President Xi took office on March 14 of this year).

In Sanya, President Peña Nieto and President Xi agreed to re-launch the Mexico-China relationship on the basis of a strong dialogue and mutual trust. They also expressed their interest in and readiness to strengthen the bilateral relationship in areas of priority by taking specific actions. This State visit will provide for follow-up and will give content to these commitments. They will also decide on the next steps to take to make progress with their common interest in increasing the scope of the relationship.

President Xi will take part in several activities while in Mexico, including a private meeting with the Mexican president and a working meeting with the official delegations of both governments; a visit to the Permanent Congressional Commission; meetings with businessmen and the Chinese community in Mexico; a ceremony naming him a Distinguished Guest of Mexico City and a guided tour of the Chichen Itza archaeological site in the Yucatan.

President Xi will travel with his wife, Mrs. Peng Liyuan.

Mexico and China established diplomatic relations on February 14, 1972. The last State visit of a Chinese president was that of President Hu Jintao, in September 2005.
