Paris, June 3- The President of the Inter-American Development Bank, Luis Alberto Moreno, addressed the progress made by the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean at the event organized by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of France.

Moreno emphasized the region’s economic management and growth and congratulated the Colombian government for the OECD’s invitation to open discussions for membership of the organization.

If the request is accepted, Colombia would join Chile and Mexico as countries in the region that belong to the multilateral organization.

Costa Rica and Peru are also looking to become members of the OECD.

"This demonstrates how the South is part of the solution," said Moreno. "The exceptional momentum gained by these economies and the will to implement better public policies ensure continued support to the region’s inclusive economic growth”.

Made up of 34 member-countries in Europe, America and Asia Pacific, the OECD is a free market-oriented organization that aims to harmonize policies among its members to promote economic growth, employment and improvement of living conditions among its inhabitants.
