OECS, EU ESTABLISH DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

Castries, June 3 (PL)- The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the European Union (EU) established diplomatic relations as part of efforts to increase links between the two groups, regional press reported.

The Director General of the OECS, Len Ishmael, received the credentials of Mikael Barfod, appointed by the EU as its representative in the area, noted Caribbean News.

The establishment of diplomatic relations between the two organizations is a crucial step in the history of our society, said Ismael.

Meanwhile, Barfod highlighted the achievements in OECS integration and congratulated it for its efforts to efficiently insert the region into the global economy.

Founded in June 1981, the OECS is a regional organization that promotes technical cooperation and sustainable development of six independent countries and three territories of the United Kingdom in the area.
