EXPERTS FROM EIGHT COUNTRIES DISCUSS IN CUBA ON REGIONAL INTEGRATION

Havana, June 10 (PL)- Specialists from eight countries will debate today the perspective from regional organizations on integration in Latin America and the Caribbean, during an international seminar taking place in this capital.

Organized by the Centre for International Economics Research (CIEI) at the University of Havana, the meeting will focus on the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and analyze the challenges of several cooperation mechanisms in the region.

The first session will feature the speeches by representatives of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, the Andean Development Corporation-Latin American Development Bank, and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.

According to the seminar agenda, the situation of European economic integration and experiences of interest for the region, the current challenges for the Caribbean Community, and the achievements and dilemmas in the Union of South American Nations, will be discussed today.

Several institutions and universities from Germany, Belgium, Chile, Ecuador, Jamaica, Mexico and Venezuela, as well as Cuban research centers will participate in this three-day event.

The academic seminar will run until Wednesday, June 12, and also seek the position of the United States towards Latin America and the Caribbean, and the most recent proposals for partnerships between different continents.
