URUGUAY TO HOST PARLASUR'S PREPARATORY MEETING

Montevideo, September 9 (PL)- The Board of Directors of the Parliament of the Southern Common Market (PARLASUR) will meet here on Monday and Tuesday to set the date for the next preparatory meeting to resume parliamentary activities.

The meeting will also debate the postponement of the so-called institutional transition period, which authorizes the designation of national lawmakers to PARLASUR and modifications to the internal regulations.

The president of the Board of Directors, Ruben Martinez Huelmo, said that representatives from several member countries of MERCOSUR have confirmed participation in the meeting.

Among them are the parliamentarians Guillermo Carmona and Fabio Biancalani (Argentina), Newton Lima and Roberto Requiuo (Brazil), Alfonso Gonzalez Nuñez (Paraguay), and Ruben Martinez Huelmo and Gustavo Penades (Uruguay).

Venezuela, which holds the pro tempore presidency of MERCOSUR, is expected to confirm its participation.
