CARICOM DISCUSSED STRATEGIC PLAN 2014-2018 IN ST KITTS & NEVIS

Basseterre, November 4 (PL)- A team from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) concluded here a visit aimed to discuss strategic plans for the period 2014-2018 in the economic, social and cultural development areas of this country.

During their stay, the representatives of CARICOM held consultations to determine the way forward to meet the needs of member countries of the organization.

The research and analysis focused on areas such as business, agriculture, tourism, culture and heritage, crime and security, energy, labor, youth and sport.

The Governor-General of St. Kitts and Nevis, Edmund Lawrence, expressed appreciation for the unbreakable efforts of the regional body to serve and promote collaboration among the region's countries.

After concluding their stay in the capital, the delegation will visit other member states of the organization for similar consultations, before meeting with the associate members, and then they will return to their office.

Founded in 1973 by the Treaty of Chaguaramas (Trinidad and Tobago), this group has as full members Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Granada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.

Anguilla, British Virgin Islands and Turks and Caicos Islands are associate members.

The Community aims to raise the level of living and working in the nations of the region, eliminate unemployment and accelerate, coordinate and sustain economic development.
