SELA TO ASSESS REGULATORY FRAMEWORKS OF SUBREGIONAL MECHANISMS IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN

The Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) will hold the “Regional Meeting on regulatory frameworks in subregional integration mechanisms in Latin America and the Caribbean: harmonization and convergence” to assess the degree of harmonization of regulatory frameworks of the following integration mechanisms: Andean Community (CAN), Common Market of the South (MERCOSUR), Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Central American Integration System (SICA) and Pacific Alliance (AP). The meeting is scheduled to take place on 11 December in Caracas.
Caracas, 10 December 2015.- The Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) will hold the “Regional Meeting on regulatory frameworks in subregional integration mechanisms in Latin America and the Caribbean: harmonization and convergence” to assess the degree of harmonization of regulatory frameworks of the following integration mechanisms: Andean Community (CAN), Common Market of the South (MERCOSUR), Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Central American Integration System (SICA) and Pacific Alliance (AP). The meeting is scheduled to take place on 11 December in Caracas.
On the occasion of this event, a systematic study of regulatory frameworks of regional integration mechanisms will be carried out, in order to define medium- and long-term strategies, follow-up on institutional changes and assess their impact on the region.
In addition, participants will analyze the achievements made and the challenges faced by regional blocs in their efforts towards greater integration. The base document for the meeting “Regulatory frameworks in subregional integration mechanisms in Latin America and the Caribbean: harmonization and convergence,” prepared by SELA, includes chapters on the various mechanisms drafted by consultants Gustavo Guzmán Manrique (Andean Community, CAN), Celina Pena (Common Market of the South, MERCOSUR), Ankie Scott - Joseph (Caribbean Community, CARICOM), Viviana Santamaría (Central American Integration System, SICA) and Luz María de la Mora (Pacific Alliance, AP).
The “Regional Meeting on regulatory frameworks in subregional integration mechanisms in Latin America and the Caribbean: harmonization and convergence” will serve as the basis for exchange of views and discussions. Consultants Gustavo Guzmán Manrique, Celina Pena, Ankie Scott-Joseph, Viviana Santamaría, Luz María de la Mora, and Virginia Cartaya, of SELA, will make their respective presentations, and the event will be moderated by a representative of the Permanent Secretariat of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System and of the Caribbean (SELA).
